Dr. Allender
Dr. Joseph Allender is a Lincolnton native and after many adventures has decided to come back to join East Lincoln Animal Hospital. Out of high school Joseph joined the United States Navy. During his 10 years of service, he deployed multiple times on nuclear submarines where he led the nuclear power plant watch team. After leaving the Navy he moved to a career in offshore oil drilling. His next phase of life moved him to Charlotte where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology. During that time, he worked as an assistant at East Lincoln and other local emergency clinics. Dr. Joseph Allender is a graduate of NC State College for Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Pamela Lawther
Originally a native New Yorker, Dr. Lawther moved to North Carolina prior to vet school and proudly considers herself a southern convert. She completed her didactic veterinary training at St. George’s University and finished her final year of clinical training at the University of Tennessee. During her time as a vet student, she served in the Veterinary Business Management Association as a chapter President and Regional Leader, where she developed an interest in the industry and business side of veterinary medicine. Dr. Lawther is a proud member of the Vet Partners organization and enjoys collaborating with others to better this wonderful profession.
Dr. Lawther is dedicated to strengthening the human-animal bond by providing compassionate care, client education, and excellent medical care. She enjoys building meaningful relationships with her clients and patients by helping manage their medical needs. Dr. Lawther is passionate about mentoring other veterinarians and creating positive change in the vet community.
When she is not helping patients in the clinic, Dr. Lawther loves being active outdoors – including riding her horse, snowboarding, doing yoga, and traveling to new places. She also loves to cook, network with other vet professionals, and spend time with family and her dogs.
Dr. John McLean
Dr. John McLean IV grew up locally in Lincolnton, North Carolina. While he was young, in Boy Scouts, he was working on his Animal Science Merit Badge and toured a veterinary clinic in his hometown of Lincolnton. This is where he was inspired to become a veterinarian. He attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. His education continued at North Carolina State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and veterinary medicine. After graduation, he came to work for Dr. Wilson at ELAH. In maintaining his relationship with Dr. Wilson over the years, he came back to ELAH in 2020. His 35 years of experience practicing as a veterinarian led him to East Catawba Animal Clinic to continue being a part of the ELAH family.
Dr. McLean’s biggest inspiration is the love that he has for his patients while enjoying the connection with their owners. It is very rewarding to provide my patients with the utmost quality care and medicine. His professional interests in veterinary medicine include soft tissue and orthopedic surgery.
In Dr. McLean’s free time, he enjoys spending time with his daughter, two sons, and his grandson. His furry family includes two chihuahuas, a golden retriever, and a cat, and he maintains his tropical fish tank at home. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time on the lake and playing pickleball.
